Good Faith Estimate
You have the right to receive a "Good Faith Estimate" that outlines the expected costs of your medical care.
By law, healthcare providers must give patients who are uninsured or not using insurance an estimate of the costs for medical services and items.
- You are entitled to a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency services or items. This includes related expenses like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
- Ensure your healthcare provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least one business day before your scheduled service or item. You can also request a Good Faith Estimate from your provider or any other provider you choose before scheduling a service or item.
- If you receive a bill that is $400 or more above your Good Faith Estimate, you have the right to dispute the bill.
- Be sure to keep a copy or a picture of your Good Faith Estimate.
